We offer treks from half a day up to 5 days. The minimum duration needed for the impressive home stay is 2 days/1 night.

Possible activities during the trekking and further useful information about the  sites are explained in their sections.
The treks are all somewhat challenging since you have to climb up the moutain in order to reach the plateau- but there is also the possibility to have an overnight stop before Tigu Kebele- we will ask you what you think you will be able to do and we decide together before the trek.

Anyway, we pause, have lunch breaks and: We are truly NOT in a hurry!

In case you would love a mule ride, we can also offer this on all treks.Your luggage is carried by a donkey, a cook takes care of your tucker, more than enough bottled water is supplied, only thing you need to do yourself is walking and taking it all in.

Our sample itineraries

 

Half day trekking tour:

pick up from the hotel in the morning, 2,5 hours hike towards the still functioning mountain monastery ASHETEN MAYRAM at 3150meters height, including a lot of breaks and interactions with the highlander farmers, the possibility to enter the monastery, later on visiting a Ethiopian mountain farmers village including the traditional, famous coffee ceremony.

Full day trekking tour:
 

early morning pick- up from your hotel, hike to the still working mountain monastery called ASHETEN MARYAM at 3150 meter height and the possible visit of it, passing on to encounter the daily life in an Ethiopian highlander village with getting in touch with the locals there- seeing a house, enjoying the traditional famous coffee ceremony, further trekking to the plateau HUDAD.

whole tour around 9-10 hours.

Two days trekking tour:
 

First day:

start right from your hotel door, trek to the still functioning mountain monastery ASHETEN MARYAM with a possible visit, trekking towards the escarpment called ATABKIT at 3600 meter above sea level, freshly prepared lunch there, hike to ATABKIT village, getting introduced to your guest family, sharing their daily activities, enjoying the traditional Ethiopian coffee ceremony, bonfire, dinner, overnight in the village.

 

Second day:

breakfast and after some activities with the family trekking back to Lalibela town.

Three days trekking tour:
 

First day:

pick up from the hotel, trekking up to the plateau called MEREBARBU, break, hike towards the escarpment called ATABKIT at 3600 meters, freshly prepared lunch, trek to our company huts close to the mountain village TIGU KEBELE (3800 meters) on the ABUNE YOSEPH plateau, bonfire, freshly prepared dinner. overnight either in our traditional tukuls or the farmers house or a tent.

 

Second day:

breakfast, walk to see the famous GELADA BABOONS, visit in Tigu Kebele village, hike to the TWIN ZIGGITS, lunch, possible climb of RIM GEDEL (4284 meters)or learning/helping about/with the daily activities of the highlanders in the village, dinner, overnight as before.

Third day:

breakfast, trekking to Lalibela town.

 

 

 

 

Four days trekking tour:
 

First day:

pick up from the hotel, trek towards the plateau called MEREBABU, break, reaching the escarpment called ATABKIT (3600 meters) lunch break, hike to our company huts close to the highlander village TIGU KEBELE (3800 meters), bonfire, freshly prepared dinner.

Second day:

breakfast, hike to see GELADA BABOONS, visiting the highlander farmers village TIGU KEBELE (3800 meters)wandering to the TWIN ZIGGITS, lunch, possibility to climb RIM GEDEL or staying in the village, giving a hand to the highlanders, bonfire, dinner.

 

Third day:

hike to the church YEMREHANE KRISTOS, lunch and the possibility to visit the famous church, checking out the local village, dinner, bonfire.

 

Forth day:

breakfast, trekking to Lalibela town.

 

 

 

 

Five days trekking tour:
 

First day:

early pick up from the hotel, trek to the mountain monastery ASHETEN MARYAM (3150 meters), possible visit of it, snack, trek to the plateau MEREBARBU, lunch, trek to the escarpment of ATABKIT 3600 meters, long break, walk to the village Atabkit, exploring the village, getting to know your guest family, enjoying the traditional Ethiopian coffee- ceremony, bonfire, lunch.

 

Second day:

breakfast, trek to our company huts close to TIGU KEBELE (the mountain village at 3800 meters), lunch, checking out the village, giving the locals a hand, dinner, bonfire.

 

Third day:

breakfast, enjoying hordes of GELADA BABOONS, trekking to the TWIN ZIGGITS, lunch, possible climb of RIM GEDEL (4284 meters) or spending the day in Tigu Kebele, working/learning with/from the locals, dinner, bonfire.

 

Forth day:

breakfast, trek to the church YEMREHANE KRISTOS, lunch, possible exploration of the famous church, visiting the local village, dinner.

 

Fifth day:

breakfast, trek to Lalibela through the lowlands.
